MyTroops.com

MyTroops.com is a shopping network site that provides benefits to US troops every time people shop through the MyTroops.com site. Our contribution to that project was primarily customization of certain elements of the site's original Aberdeen theme.
Our goals were to create a new header, logo, footer, block displays, banner advertisements, a custom Drupal module, and also some top level content pages and page designs.
In designing these site elements we tried to capture the essence of a military themed site without using the typical camouflage and star spangled banner that is used in so many other military oriented sites.
A large portion of MyTroops.com audience are public citizens, not troops, so we determined that we needed theme and content modifications that would be cool and calming while still preserving some degree of GI (Government Issue) design qualities. To this end we made use of mid-toned blues for a great deal of the graphic displays and GI green for the "Reward a Troop" block as well as for most links.
MyTroops.com is low on media rich content so we decided to bolster the site detail with background graphics in the header, blocks, footer, and several key points in some of the content pages. These pages include the home page, supporters page, troops page, and also custom views headers.
MyTroops.com started with the Aberdeen theme which has a display problem that was beyond the scope of our contract to fix. The problem manifests itself as an offset or imbalance of position in the content section. Aberdeen does however display ok in Internet Error 6 though (but thats the only browser that likes Aberdeen... My guess is that errors love company!)
MyTroops.com is open for business and offers some great deals not only for the shopper but also for the troops. So check it out and bookmark it! MyTroops.com is run by a soldier for the soldiers and also for the benefit of the rest of us too.
