CarliScales.com is an art gallery site. It is still in the process of being completed and made public. It only needs the e-commerce functionality turned on and the dummy text in some of the gallery items to be replaced with the real descriptions.
This site was created for a very creative artist from Texas named (you guessed it!) Carli Scales. Carli's work is rich, colorful, and highly detailed. To create a site that best suited her work we decided to use a very passive theme with styling emphasis on layout and order of presentation rather than color and graphics.
We really wanted to capture the feeling of being in an actual art gallery for this site. As you may know, most art galleries have little to no decoration outside of the art that is being presented in them. In an actual art gallery the floor is bare (save for a seat or two) and the walls are decorated only with art. Furthermore, lighting is placed in a fashion such that it illuminates the art piece.
To achieve this effect we made the art the most obvious point of focus through centering the art item in the center of the screen and keeping it well separated from any other elements that may serve to easily distract the viewer's attention. The only element that was allowed to be close to the image was the description/story of it. However, the description is placed to the right of the image to reinforce the importance of the image over all other visual elements.
This site will be publicly viewable in the not to distant future so stay tuned. Carli has a remarkable style that is hard to compare to any other artist's styles and we look forward to helping her bring her art into the broader public domain.
